My brother has an '87 924S that may or may start on the first try, it may take as many as 20 attempts. This may happen twice a week or twice a day.
His mechanic installed a new fuel pump,no difference.
He installed a DME relay. The problem still exist.
i drive an '80 931 and I'm not familiar with the newer electronics.
What's his next step? _________________ Jim Baldwin

How's the fuel pressure regulator?
Are the injectors firing? Is there spark? How's the timing?
Since it is essentially a 944, there may be some pertinent info on Clark's-garage.com
I think there are some sensors and wiring for the flywheel that could be problematic as well. _________________ Stefan

I believe he's had the fuel pressure checked, not sure.
Injectors, I don't know. What's the easiest way to test them?
He said he had a spark indicator connected and there is not spark during a non-start attempt.
I forgot about the flywheel sensor. I'll point in that direction next. I think he has a Haynes that explains how to check.

Air + Spark + Fuel should get vrooom.
If the plugs are wet with fuel, then you've got fuel and working injectors.
Sounds like perhaps something related to the ignition system is not working. Possibly a pickup in the distributor or a flywheel sensor, perhaps the coil is on the way out. Hard to say without further diagnostics. _________________ Stefan
