So as the topic suggests I have a thumping/banging when I am driving around between 2800 and 3200 rpm. Now I know that I could just drive a bit faster than 3200rpm and have it go away but this is about where the average speed is when in town driving. My question is in the tunnel where the exhaust runs should I try to loosen the exhaust and move it towards the back of the car or towards the front?
Just curious. _________________ Cheers;

Is the thumping due to it rattling because of the harmonics of driving at that RPM for extended time?
If it is I would check the rubber doughnuts that hold the exhaust system to the hangers, they may be too loose and are letting the exhaust rattle.
I don't know how you would move the exhaust back and forth as there are set tolerances for the exhaust distance from certain brackets.
Hope you figure it out.

To be honest I did not see any hangers in the tunnel under the car!! I see where there should be something but I guess I know what I need now.
Thanks Ian. _________________ Cheers;

Thanks guys.
So I of course do not want to use used rubber hangers, but is there a special hanger that is used in the exhaust tunnel kind of behind the gear shift? When I was under the car on the weekend it looked like there should be one there but could not find or see it.
Thanks again. Once I get the rattling fixed I am sure that most of the exhaust smell will be gone as it wont loosen things on me. LOL.
