I am rebuilding the master cylinder on a 1978 924 because we keep getting air into the brake lines. I am following the steps in the Haynes manual and have removed the retainer ring and and retaining bolt. Cannot get the piston to pull out. Am I missing something on pulling the piston out of the body?

The first washer after the retaining ring will be stuck in the retainer rings groove. Pull harder!

I guess it does not matter if I damage the "piston rod" because it is being replaced. Correct?

Thanks.
