I've got oil in the coolant, but not vice versa and I already replaced the oil cooler rings/gaskets. Which means... HEAD GASKET TIME!!!

Before I delve into this I was just wonder if anyone has any tips/suggestions. I've already read (and will be using as a reference) Clark's Garage. I am weeping at the fact I may have to break down and buy the belt tension tool, but if I need it, I need it.

Be sure and do a vacuum refresh while you have the manifold off, and certainly refresh the head itself. Clean ground post at the rear of the manifold, too. . .and maybe a new heater valve. Service and flow test radiator.

Also, don't skimp on FOES. Balance shaft seals and front bearings, balance shaft sleeves, front main seal and crank sleeve, water pump with new hardware kit, new timing belt tensioner stud. Update power steering feed hose and replace reservoir.

Zim's has good FOES kits.

Rasta, great suggestions, exactly what I was looking for! And thanks for the pointer to Zim's.

Not to hijack the post, much, but my '88 has 78K miles on it and am pulling the engine for the FOES and a clutch job (Paul, Scotch, and me). Question, is it worth replacing the suspect rod bearings at the same time? This car is going to be a 944Spec car eventually, so mucho track time. Hopefully.
