OK - So I got my Koni replacement cartridges and the instructions say to add 50cc of oil.
2 questions:
Any particular type and weight of oil?
What is the seal part number?

I can't find any mention of a seal to fit over the cartridge and under the cap. It sure doesn't seem to be a tight enough fit to keep the oil in the tubes without some sort of seal. I guess I could just squeeze a tube of rtv around the top of the cartridge before I put the cap on.

I use ATF in my struts. No need to worry about leakage. . .the insert fits quite tightly in the housing when torqued down.

Oh, and 50cc is way too much. Put a splash in, slip in the insert until it is almost bottomed out, and dribble ATF down the side. Put some in, bottom the insert. Repeat until ATF spooges out. Done!

The purpose of this oil is to conduct the heat generated in the damper to the strut housing so that it can be dissipated into the air.

So, any fluid that is non-corrosive will do. ATF would be easy to work with because it's thin, but motorcycle fork oil would do nicely as well. There isn't even a need for it to be fresh oil, although I'd have a hard time putting really nasty stuff in. . .

No seals are needed because gravity holds the oil down, and there's no pressure to build up in the strut housing.

I've always used the oil that was in the strut.
