hey everyone

This seems to be my luck of late - after getting my timing set and belt tightened up I started the car to check everything with my timing light - next thing I know the timing belt starts to smoke and shoot teeth everywhere
I shut the car off as quick as I could.

Would this be a tensioner problem? or belt too tight?

Also, the motor should be ok - if it only did that for a few seconds?

I hope

any thoughts

Sean

Stock NA is non interference, so most likely the only thing you damaged is the belt.

How tight did you make it? Are the crankshaft and camshaft pulleys bolts tightened and aligned?

I will double check - I noticed the smoke pretty much at the tensioner as it was spitting teeth at that point as well

I wouldn't rely on turning it on this one, that method failed me on this car. This is something I generally live by and it just didn't work for me as I did this yesterday. My teeth came off my belt too. when I put the new one on I was getting this weird squeaking noise because i over tightened it. I thought I messed up the oil pump with a tooth or something. Anyway,.. what I did was get it taught and then a tiny bit more for a little tension. The sound went away and I was very constant with timing light on fly wheel after that.
