upon further inspection of my turbo compressor wheel I have come to the conclusion that it was definitely a foreign object that destroyed the turbo and not just bad bearings..

so if the turbo compressor ate something I think it is likely that the object continued into the top end of the engine and reeked more havoc upon the pistons/head/valves etc..

But, the turbine wheel of the turbo is undamaged so therefore whatever entered the compressor, and may or may not have entered the top end, never exited the exhaust valves because it would have left at least some sort of evidence on the turbine wheel on its way out, made it look like the compressor wheel.. (I believe I would be correct to assume?)

apart from all the blue smoke the darn thing sure did run pretty well, idled well, revved well, etc..

I would just love to pull the head and inspect but seeing as I would then have to replace the head gasket and head studs that would cost me even more money that I don't really have (btw I am at the point that I can afford to pop on a turbo and seals/gaskets for installation).

Do you guys think I could get away with a compression and leakdown test to determine if my top end is in good shape or would you advise that I go ahead and pull the head?

and.. if I do have to pull the head should I go OEM headgasket and studs or ARP/MLS? (horsepower goals are going to be within the boundries of stock CIS system)

cant even do a compression check, the turbo oiling circuit is incomplete and there is no oil in the engine so to do a compression check I would be cranking it dry... no no
