|
|
I'm 99% sure I've got an engine mount issue. Will verify this week. But recently upon coming to abrupt stops, or stopping, or at idle, the shifter seems to shake and vibrate. In fact, upon an abrupt stop, the shifter will flop forward and back a bit. It's visible and you can see it. It's not dramatic at this point, but it's uh... well... concerning to me...
I thought "transmission mounts?" but I checked them and they're in good shape from what I can see. I certainly can't shake them. So I suspect a transmission mount.
That said... does anyone have any recommended upgrade mounts they like? It's my daily so race mounts are probably overkill. But something that isn't going to put ridiculous strain on the chassis, but is a nice improvement would be great.
Would prefer feedback from those who have actually installed such a thing on their car. Unless factory is recommended, which is fine too. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

NOS stock passenger mount.
Eurotek street mounts ($$)
DIY spring replacement for the passenger side.
Good luck. _________________ Stefan

Incomplete diagnosis? A collapsed or torn motor mount is often visible on inspection, and busted up shifter bushings can make the shifter do alarming things.

These ones are still VERY stiff, for a street car only I would look around at alternatives.
My friend had toasted engine mounts, and you could rock the engine back and forth by hand. And you would se it move around in the engine bay when cranking for example, or revving up the engine. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

The vibration is bad enough that the heat shield is squeaking pretty badly. It's driving me nuts.

I know I know... I've been working on the 914 to get it sold and working on the trackday project to get the body work done... with the 911 gone it's easier since I have less to work on. But only so much time in a day. _________________ - 1977 Porsche 924 2.0 N/A (Trackday Project)

Not the requested field experience you're after!
I do have a second set for backup, and before putting it on the shelf
I took it apart once to check te spring… pretty forward assembly IMHO
Would replacing the spring, by for instance a valve spring , be helpful?
