I feel like I am accumulating quite a few of these "stupid questions" lately

has anyone filled the transmission fluid through the reverse plug on top?

I guess you could do that but the way you tell the tranny is full is when the fluid starts to come out of the fill hole. If you use the reverse sensor, you'd need a dipstick or something to tell when you're full -- no fill plug for the fluid to run out of....
