Ok, one of the biggest car guy movies of our generation is coming out on the 27th. I've heard about it for at least a couple of years now and have huge expectations.
To put things in perspective, I saw LeMans, Grand Prix and even The Gumball Rally in first run in the movie theater. Awesome every one, but this, Hunt/Lauda, F1, Ron Howard -- wow.
Who's going?
Road trip anyone? I'll probably see this more times than I saw Star Wars. |

Definitely going to see it. There's been some talk locally of a GTG after track day at Waterford Hills. Roadtrip to Ideola's Garage, movie premier after???? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

Saw it last week as a fundraiser for all the marshalls here. Fantastic movie and well worth watching, but prepare to get a bit dizzy in the first few scenes! _________________ Andrew

On a similar note, they are filming Fast and Furious 7 for another week or two just up the hill from us on Monarch Pass in Colorado. apparently only the stunt drivers are here. They keep the area blocked off enough so we haven't seen anything. There was 6" of snow Sunday night so the word is that the stunt men were sledding down Gun Barrel one of the steepest runs in at the local ski area Monday morning. _________________ Mike

Bring ear plugs and I dare you to wear your helmet and suit while watching it. _________________ Stefan

Review:
From a car guy perspective, the events were right, the cars were right, the drivers were right, the tracks were right. Ron Howard nailed it. Even the car sounds were on the nose (and LOUD yay, ear plugs BAH). I especially liked seeing the 6-wheeler tyrrell P34s. Score: 10
From a common man (or wife) perspective, the story had a few gaps, but most of it held together. The only curiosity was the treatment of Hunt's wife. A little nonsensical. However, my wife did spend this morning on wikipedia looking up James Hunt and Nikki Lauda and all manner of things F1. Probably knows more about them now than I do. So, if the idea was to engage the general public in F1, mission accomplished. Score: 8.5
Overall, well worth it. Will see again. Will buy and add to the car guy movie collection for sure. |
