Hi everybody, what is the best way of trimming out the standard arches before fitting the fibreglass Gt arches? Seems like quite alot needs to be cut away, how does this affect the inner arch? Any pictures of the job in stages would be gratefully recieved. Thanks in advance

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=CGT+Arches+site%3A924board.org

Lots of posts on the board about that, unfortunately the board's software is woefully out of date and the search function sucks. Use Google to search the board by adding "site:924board.org" after your search term and you should get better results.

Hope this helps!

Here's a pic of my 'practice car', a bit brutal, but pretty much what to expect.

Here's how I secured the inner and outer fenders, by using steel 3/16ths pop rivets. If you go this route, instead of welding, get a good rivet gun, the steel rivets are tough to use. Don't use aluminum, since it's a different metal than the car.

When lining up the rear fender, watch the lower part, mine is too far to the right. It still is.

Here's an option if you want to adjust your torsion bars. A bit crude, but, I didn't care. In the pic, I have a welded bolt to the exposed torsion bar. I've since ground that off and welded a stud to it. Then, you can use a puller to adjust the height of the car.

The car is pretty cool though, regardless of any compromises!

I'd be welding that arch up rather than riveting. The shell flexes enough without weakening it further

Here's one way of doing it. Plenty of other ways out there

Thanks for the replies, looks like the easy way is to cut slits, fold the arch outwards and weld back together forming a lip

Why hasn't anyone ever posted a detail picture of an OEM GT rear arch? Then we can all copy that! I've seen pictures of the outer 1/4 arch with the holes drilled side on, but not the detailed inner/outer arch combo.

As a CGT owner, I can tell you I don't want to disassemble my rare car just to see how it was put together

When I did mine we cut the outside fender and welded the cut outer body to the inside body. Not for the squimish. I posted pics on this site a while back. Search vince ponz

The rivet method works if you can't weld sheet metal, which I can't. I check the rivets periodically, and so far, not a problem. Also, have a roll cage installed helps prevent the body from twisting much.

No need to weld or rivet. You cut the inner wheel housing high and the quarter panel low. Then just roll the quarter over the inner wheel housing. Really clean and looks factory. Cgt actually has a different part number for the quarter panel.

I've posted a photo a while back of a black Carrera with the flare removed search "naked Carrera"
