Seems my battery tray leakage started again
My passenger footwell was crazy wet when I took it in the garage for winter.
The sound deadining carpet/pad under the carpet was soaked.
I removed the carpet and let it dry
Now I'm not sure if I should put it back in the car.
Should I tear away the sound deadening that was soaked as I'm afraid it got some moisture in it.

Water sat for 2 months without moving before I took it in the garage so i'm not sure how long it has been wet like that (note that the last month was so cold it was probably frozen anyway)
Carpet doesn't smell that bad considering it's from an 1987 924S

Dry it out as much as possible and put some moisture absorber containers in car foot wells. Replace the under mat if necessary before installing carpet.

Better yet, if you have a portable dehumidifier, put it in the car for several days at highest setting. You will be amazed at how much moisture it will pull out of the car.

After that, you might need to steam clean the carpet to get it back, but these old carpet fabrics are notorious for crumbling and deteriorating.

I had the same issue years ago. That heavy sound deadening stuff is brilliant at absorbing and holding onto masses of water for a long-ass time.

When mine was eventually was dry on the surface it still had a lake of water underneath...as I found when I eventually tore it up. If your battery tray let in enough water over time, I think yours might be as bad.

Pull up a bit and see. I ended up getting rid of all mine and replacing it with lighter underlay using spray glue to fit. This was after a new battery tray was welded in.
