Mwhile prepong the sunroof panel for a repaint, we noticed a chip came off.
The chip was made of long fiber and started to wonder if entire panel was not made of fiber
So oem roof is it fiberglass or metal?

my friend suggested simply rebuilding it with bondo...do you believe it is doable or should I see at getting a new one?

Would not recommend filling that with bondo. Easiest would be to find a replacement. These are plentiful and pretty cheap. If you must fix then I would get some glass cloth and Matt and repair with resin.

You could try some fiberglass impregnated bondo, but the roofs are all the same and not hard to find if you look.

Even the power roofs could be used with swapping the latches around, though I've not done that myself so I can't say for certain that will work (though more than one 944 has swapped to manual latches using 924 parts). The panels are the same size.

A friend of mine used '79 sunroof in his '88 924S only by swapping rear latches to electrical. So, they are all the same.
