Hi Guys,

After nearly 13 years 924Board has to move to a new server provider.

Over the next week or so we will be copying everything over to a new server and then doing a cut-over.

In an ideal world you wouldn't notice anything. In the real world things will break - guaranteed. Hopefully the broken things will be fixed very quickly.

I'll keep this thread updated as things progress.

Peter.

The people that run the data centre where 924Board is hosted need the space. 924Board actually runs on a physical server.

Options were to pay for the server co-location (we've got it for free up until now) or go to a virtual server.

So 924Board is going to a virtual server hosted in the US so most of you should notice that things happen quicker once it gets sorted out. Of course having the NSA and Homeland Security interrogating every single post might slow things down a bit

Good luck with migration! It's always a challenge.

Thanks Shurick.

I do data migrations for a job and they are always a challenge. The worst thing you can do is think that this one will be simple.

They're called WebFaction. They have data centres in the US, Amsterdam and Singapore.

C'mon they've been doing that already and listening to our cell phones too.

okay; that didn't go as planned.

Due to problems with the company who was hosting our servers we got switched off without any final warning.

Luckily I think we only lost any posts in the last 12 hours. It might take a while before everyone can see the site again due to DNS propagation delays.

It will take longer than usual to process new members because of problems with our email.

Peter.

Yep, I noticed it, the "great abyss" ate one of my threads. Oh well, I will just rewrite it.

sorry about that. The plan was to set the board to "read only" and then copy everything to the new server.

The best laid plans...

Anyway...

as 924board.org is now being hosted in the United States does anybody notice that it loads faster, slower, the same?

It seems lightning fast from here. Page loads instantly, no progressive rendering like before.

Check the time zone setting for your profile. Mine is displaying correctly...
