When I needed a starter motor heat shield I just used 26ga galvanized air duct. It is good for pretty high temperatures, and you should have a slight air gap anyway. I also found an old NOMEX(?) soldering cloth I had and used pop rivets to fasten it to the shield.. _________________ Mike

I checked and the properties of galvanized are ok for 390 F indefinitely, at 480F(250C) the galvanize will start to pee(over extended time period)l, they did not include their TTT chart. At 750F the material properties will start to be affected. Mind that these are for continuous exposure to these temperatures. _________________ Mike

The 944s use yellow, silver & clear zinc plating. Cadmium, was likely how the 924s were plated. They have more of a gold color than yellow. The heat shields that look like a grey bare metal were probably a grey or clear cad. I have a heat shield in very good shape, it doesn't appear to be the standard "flake" Galvanizing.
What are you trying to do, replate a part or make one from scratch? |
