|
|
Hello,
I would like to as question.
Does anyone is using or knows how good is Racer`s Edge header? I heard it is made by Stahl header. Seems to be expensive...
Will it make good change in standard motor or it will be better in modded engine?
What gains to expect? _________________ Browar

What are your plans for the car? I don't personally have any experience with this header, but IMO, if this is just a street car, then I wouldn't bother. That money is probably better spent elsewhere. Since the 924S already has a tubular header, you probably won't see any gains. If you do, it will probably be because you are sacrificing low end torque. While the car might make more power on paper, it will likely be slower on the street. However, such a header might be beneficial on a race car that spends it's life at high RPM.
I hope that helps! _________________ '84 944 -White, Brown interior

Thank You for input.
I have sorter suspenssion and I am happy with result. Brakes are fine also. Now it will be time for engine. I am planning for 160 hp pistons with 100.50 mm. Head will be refubrished with better cam.
Hope this header will be nice for my setup... _________________ Browar

Unlikely to be much of an improvement. As stated, factory 4-2-1 is a pretty nice setup. _________________ Toofah King Bad

A little less weight, but yeah I can't imagine there would be much gain.
Also, is your car LHD or RHD? Would that impact the header design on the 924S/944? Just curious since I've not seen pictures of a RHD 924S/944. _________________ Stefan

Thanks for input.
I have std LHD.
I will try to test engine with and w/o header. Hope to put car on rollers.
Anyone interested? _________________ Browar

Shoot id like to think better breathing, reving, torque than stock. A
change in nature of the beast for a later car. _________________ 1979 porsche 924 Na

Joe, read the links I posted.
They don't do really anything over the stock tubular stock exhaust manifold. Now, if you're running a huge cam, bump the size of the motor to 2.7 or 3.0 and have a hugely ported head, then perhaps you might see a gain.
Unlike the 2.0L in the 924, the 2.5 didn't get hamstrung with piss poor ports or manifolds as the 944 was meant to slot in under the 928 after the 911 went away. _________________ Stefan

Well,
Some time past and I would like to ask You all for rough estimate.
I was thinking about engine refresh with some new parts. What power gains should one expect after rebuild with few new parts like:
- Stahl header and Dansk SSI exhaust w/o cat.conv.
- JME camshaft S3-14
- '88 oversize pistons 100,50mm
- Augtronic engine management with wasted spark plug
- cylinder head rebuild with 48mm intakes valves from 2,7l plus 0,5mm cylinder shaving for bump in CR to approx 10.8
I understand it is difficult to judge just from those information's but it would be very helpful to estimate anything or plan something different...
Thank You for input in advance. _________________ Browar

You won't gain much. The 2.5 was a very well designed engine for its time. Porsche engineering increased power by adding a twin cam, 16v head and increasing displacement in later engines.
Not trying to be a nay-sayer, just trying to help you avoid disappointment. If you are really dying for more ponies, swap in a turbo or 3.0 NA. Both projects very well documented here and on Pelican, and are relatively straightforward. The car can also be lightened quite a bit. . . _________________ Toofah King Bad

I would consider 944 Turbo engine swap. All the money that you are going to spend on the build are not worth the gain.
944 T can be bought cheap and it is almost bolt on in S model.
Powodzenia z projektem ! _________________ www.btrpalmbeach.com
