I'm eyeing a '87 924S in what appears to be either Zermatt Silver Metallic LY7Y or Silver Metallic L980. I don't recall seeing that many 924Ss in those colors. Mostly Guards Red or Black. If this one has original paint, would that be special order for either Silver?

I believe the 924S came in Zermatt Silver, so that's what it is likely to be. Silver Metallic is a 928 and 911 color. There was also Slate Gray offered for the 944 that year, but that it had to be ordered. I'm not personally sure how rare Zermatt is, but I've seen it on more cars than white.

I hope that helps!

I've seen the Zermatt Silver on a couple late 944s and it was really nice. We've also owned a '02 Boxster and a '07 Cayman in Artic Silver. I'm going to take a look at the 924S this weekend and get the option codes. Hard to tell from the one one photo but it might be a sunroof delete car and who knows what other options The seller doesn't appear to be very Porsche knowledgeable.

Good Luck! Silver is one of my favorite color on these cars.
