Hi there,
Except of price does any one know anything about it ?
There was a small article in 911&Porsche World some time ago but nothing more.
I was looking at Rennlist, and other forums and there is almost none information about it , a real lack of information.
Maybe some of the UK guys here know something about it ?
Any way, what Do You think? about possible performance upgrade of those changes and is it possible to achive with a "simple modification" a 170PS from 2,5 8v engine...
"simple modification" - test mule, an early model 944 Lux 2.5 NA fitted with a late model DME, 944 turbo injectors, wasted spark and upgraded and tuned with AugTronic. This standard engine made 175HP on the rollers, retains great fuel economy and is a joy to drive.
PS. I did not find anything about augtronic using search |

170hp would only be 7hp extra to the factory figures (early 944 Euro/ROW version) so I'm sure it is possible. What those guys are doing in the UK is very exciting but if you want to do something by yourself and if your car is non-chippable early 944, then you could do the Bosch Motronic BMW logic board modification:
http://www.powerprom.com/bmw_mod.htm
I just did this yesterday and it feels OK now. Good power on low rpm's. Not sure about the top end though. Feels like there is more torque but hardly any extra raging power. Since guessing leads to nowhere, I thinking of booking a dyno session to really see what is going on.

Hi, they claim to achive 175 PS from early 944 lux so starting from 163 PS this is about 12 bhp with a simple electronic modification....
they got even more with:
This 924S is a dedicated race car and the owner wanted some more power to be more competitive . We fitted AugTronic, a road race cam and a race alternator pulley and after a dyno tune we netted +30bhp over a stock 2.5 engine. In addition increased torque was made across the entire rev range.
And +30PS is a significant improvement for a 924S.
I need to get familiar with the bmw mod. to have an opinion. |

I'd like to see the dyno plots before and after. My suspicion is that the change in the cam made a larger difference in the peak power than the ECU change might have.
Not to say that it isn't possible, goodness knows the early EFI systems left a little on the table due to the rather primitive nature of the computer systems at the time and the fact that they had a warranty to support against all sorts of varied environments and use regular gas, not premium.
There has been a lot of advancements made in programming the Motronic system used in the 924S and the 944's:
Rogue Tuning has a very highly regarded solution:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-924-944-968-technical-forum/710961-rogue-tuning-na-tune-maf-conversion-944na.html
There's also the option of using the popular MegaSquirt system which could eliminate the restrictive MAF solution altogether:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-924-944-968-technical-forum/404344-microsquirt-stand-alone-ecu-installation-guide.html
and allow more tuning options (converting the car to run on alcohol/ethanol, adding a turbo or supercharger, etc.) _________________ Stefan

Thanks for reply fiat22turbo
The Rogue tuning link is interesting.
As for the dyno plots, there is only what it is at the web site , and they don't show the before ones.. |

I make Plug and Play solution for 944, 944S, 944S2, 968, 944 Turbo, 911 3.2, 964, 993 with VEMS ECU and these have all fully working configuration files loaded onto them already.
Cost is in the region of 1000 euros and that includes WBo2 sensor (VEMS has dual onboard WBo2 controllers).
This is truly modern standalone with options that are yet to be found on ECUs even twice the price of VEMS.
968 with COP option:
964 with 12x COP, 2x EGT and 2x WBo2 option (going to 4.0 turbo, 900+ hp):
944 Turbo, adapter harness that connects to DME and KLR plugs:
