Hi all,
First of all, thanks for the add and for building this forum! I am getting a 77 924 from a friend in trade and have a couple of questions. The alternator is missing the lower bracket, and the rubberized bolt that the bracket attaches to at the block is sheared off. I found the part at gaudinporscheparts (#047-903-149) but haven't found the lower bracket yet. Also I don't know what other parts like gaskets etc I might need for the job. Which brings me to another question: what is the recommended repair manual for this car? I think he has a Chilton or Haynes or something but I'm not sure which. Thanks in advance! I think the car will be driving again once I can get this figured out.

Welcome aboard Dallas!
Haynes Manual is a must;
Further more the PET catalog (free parts diagrams by Porsche) and 924 Porsche Workshop Manual ($, or d/l .PDF somewhere)
Basics explained on 924.org, loads of articles on this board that cover many-many subjects and go into detail.
To find your answers it's best to use the google search option.

On the subject of rubberized bolt; think hockey puck

I want to make sure I'm understanding the hockey puck fix correctly. Instead of using the rubberized bolt in the engine block, I just leave it alone. I fasten a hockey puck to the end of the adjusting bracket and just let the puck/bolt head rest against the engine block? If that's the case, I just need to source or fabricate the adjusting bracket and I'm good to go! Thanks

Another thing I forgot to mention, the previous owner told me that the rear glass has a tendency to pop out of the seal. Is this common? Is there a common fix?

Just bought the lower alternator bracket, so I think I'm on the right track.

I don't know if this is common. My 1988 924S does not have this problem. Some say its the trunk shocks that cause this. The shocks are pretty strong to lift and hold the rear hatch window up. It is believed that the constant pushing of the shocks against the glass is what separates it from the frame. The fix would be to either replace the whole unit with a good used one or go through the trouble of removing the glass and resealing it back into place. Pick your poison. _________________ MOD

I realized after I posted that one of the trunk struts is missing, I would guess that's the cause. I'll try to get it reseated and get the strut replaced. Thanks!

Welcome!
Pressure separating the frame from the glass as well as twist from lifting the hatch from one side does it. One strut would not be helpful as it would be difficult to raise it without twist. |

That was my understanding. I'll soon change the number of lift supports from one to two.
