Worth it or not?

Looks like a nice engine, but I can't quite see it as worthy of the "GTR Tribute" label without the turbolader. I want to like it, but...

There's a lot of nice touches to the interior and such, but still not completely correct.

Interesting counterpoint to Ed's Holbert Wide Body.

Of course it's worth it. This is not some $4000 basket case. This is a purpose built car and it is definitely worth the asking price.

Would be worth it in Australia, although i'd like to know how he gets 175hp out of his engine that seems to be a standard 125hp euro engine with some basic upgrades? My motor has 125rwhp with 11:1, hot cams big valves etc etc etc....

Seen this car for sale a while back, totally worth it.
If you want big power on it, strap a 931 engine to it with an intercooler and increased boost and you're set...as it is known, in USA one can find 931 parts cars for chips money...if i were you i'd take that car, add more "GTR correctness" and a 931 engine.

EDIT: i knew this from the last ad he posted, but he is also including a BAE turbo kit for it.

I like it, just need to add a turbo, IC and crank the boost with the GTR correct boost controller.

I understand these are old cars and aren't fast by todays standards but the fact that this car looks so fast and probably isn't just sucks. He nailed the look tho.

I did see the BAE, but it's not installed. Why didn't he at least install the BAE?! At least then it would be boosted.

I just can't wrap my head around calling it a Tribute car without a turbocharger in it; and TBH, the BAE feels kind of cheater...he went to all the effort to get "bonafide" (supposedly) GTR bits and pieces, running an NA motor or an aftermarket turbocharger somehow doesn't seem right. I mean, it's a cool car, no doubt, but to be a GTR tribute, I think he could have put more effort into replicating the GTR motor.

I'm with ya, Freddie, regarding a hotted up motor for the Martini, but I already have a Windblown setup for that. My plans are to pull the numbers-matching 77.5 motor and keep it for posterity. I have the original 78 motor that came out of the d-prod tribute car as a basis for a mild performance build. I've got all the bits to do US-spec 9:1 pistons, late NA head to replace the asthmatic 77-78 head, combined with the Windblown bolt-on kit. I've already swapped in a late (81) 5-speed trans (kept the 4-speed for posterity), and I've got all the stuff now to do 5-lug conversion, including some 6x16 Fuchs that I'm going to have color coded in the correct Martini white. So it'll be a restomod sort of approach, but everything will be non-destructive to the original. In case the Martini cars ever become collectible, I'll keep all the original bits so I can put it back to OEM spec.

Back on point, I dunno, at [edit]$15K[/edit], this car makes Ed's car seem like a bargain for what he was asking, particularly given its Holbert provenance.

The engine is the least of the worries here and building one is no big deal...all of the hard work is done and that's what makes this car totally worth it and if anybody doesn't believe that you may want to ask board member Rom78 how much time, not money but time, he has invested in his GTP recreation!

Even if you got this car at the BIN figure of $15K and put another $10K into it you would still be ahead of the game as to having a super track car that is certainly unique and that is the beauty of this car, not it's provenance but it's utility!

Oops, I see I screwed up the asking price between my post yesterday and today...yeah, $15K actually is a reasonable number. Just don't call it a Tribute! LOLZ

Maybe whoever buys this will buy the motor for my languishing wide body project and have a closer approximation to the GTR!
