I sure did.
Didnt realize it was the columns U joints, until I replaced both my inner/outer tie rods.
Luckily, I found a next to new one in my favorite yard for 8 bucks.
So, onto the bad one. Anyone know how to rebuild it/source U joints? Figure I may as well just to have a good one on hand for later down the road. _________________ 1979 924

There's a company that rebuilds them:

Requires machine work, some skill and a source for the parts. _________________ Stefan

Might I ask what symptoms you were experiencing prior to the part swap? My steering is loose at center and tighter at either end of the steering wheel travel. I've already adjusted the tension at the steering rack without acceptable cure. I've replaced the tie rod ends, but not the inners. Have the rack, lower steering column, inner rods, and bearings in the upper steering column that I'm considering replacing, but if I could replace the actual culprit without throwing parts at it that would be ideal. _________________ 1981 931 |

Greg, that sounds like a worn out or bent rack to me. _________________ Stefan

There are two U-joint sizes used 13 and 15 mm (cap diameter).
For the 15x40 mm version I had in my cars Loebro U221 joints fitted nicely. They where about $12/each.
The process of replacement is pretty straightforward: press out old one, press in new one, secure using hammer and mandrel. _________________ WBR, Shurick
