I'm starting to suspect that a previous owner of my '79 924 installed the front spindle and rotors from a karmann ghia/vw type 3 on my car. This is based on the fact that the wheel bearings for a 4-lug 924 are too large for my spindle, and based on the limited information I can dig up by searching the part numbers on my old wheel bearings.
Does anybody know if such a thing is possible? I wouldn't be surprised if it was, but I haven't heard of anybody doing it.. _________________ 1979 924 NA

The Karmann Ghia parts/Type 3 pr Beetle front parts would not fit. Al of the 4 lug VW's had the wrong bolt patters as well. The 924 is 4 x 108mm and the VW is 4 x 130 the same circle as the 5 lug Porsche. Even the late Super Beetle spindles and rotors would not fit. _________________ 84 944--924 Carrera GTS clone w/520HP Chevy 302 V8--RUNNING!

The FAG part numbers are the correct bearings they are tapered so check they are facing the correct way, also check your new parts are correctly supplied. Not 100% sure what is too big or too small but maybe it's worth checking for excess wear too. _________________ 1977 924 NA Auto |

It looks like the correct bearings for my stud are a SET1 for the outer, and a SET8 for the inner. These are the bearings that autozone, advance auto, and rockauto have listed for a 5-lug hub, however mine is a 4-lug. So either everybody has the part numbers reversed, or my car is some kind of oddball. _________________ 1979 924 NA

When I asked for new bearings when I still had 4-lugs, the parts guy gave me bearings that were too big (I'm assuming they were the right size for 5-lug). I got the right size by bringing the old bearings in.
There have been several things wrong in the FLAPS parts database. _________________ 78 924 NA
