When I bought my '81 N/A, I noticed a few errant wires hanging down near the center console, and could also tell that there had been a speaker (Kicker-type) box in the rear hatch, so...after getting her running, I decided to see what was what.

Two butchers had their way with my baby. One for the stereo and another for the fancy German power antenna. Ba$tards! The stereo was wired up by a blind junkie armed with those plastic wire hacks/splitters and an assortment of duct tape and masking tape. Seriously, I found no electrical tape used.

The antenna installer somehow found it necessary to hack/mess with the center console gauge wiring.

Currently the oil pressure gauge works and the light for the clock works; however, there is one unused pin on the clock and two lonely sets of wires (both with two wires to a female spade connector) that need a home. I pulled my, ahem, trusty Haynes manual and it has no diagrams for cars with the A/C control in the middle. So all the wiring diagrams I can find include the volt meter (which I wish I had) and no mention or diagram for cars with A/C.

Anyone have any tips or leads on where I could find this info?

I'm also curious about one other area that was messed with - the bank of switches just behind the shifter. I have two switches there, one is a selector for the power mirrors (which was re-wired and one of the wires goes nowhere), and the other is for...? I don't have headlamp washers, and the owners manual for the car just skips over those switches. wtf.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

There isn't one present on the car, but I suppose it could have been removed and the hatch glass replaced.

What color are the wires in the console with the female connectors?

Sorry for the delay in responding, Paul. This one slipped by me. I'll take some pictures this afternoon and let you know what I find.

Here's what the wiring looks like right now. The blue wire going to the switch on the right is broken off at the female connector (which is still on the switch).

The one on the left has new wiring. The black wire is a ground and is grounded to the steering column. The blue wire for that one goes to nothing. It was connected to the hot for the power antenna, which was jammed into a fuse terminal, so it is currently taped and capped. Power antenna and all associated wiring for it has been removed.

The masking tape marks them as left and right (though the one marked right is on the left side and vice versa), but I can't make out what the other word written on the tape is. As far as I can tell, these are the only remnants of the masking tape wiring hacks on the car.

The car has dual power side mirrors, but no rear wiper, no headlight washers and no front aux lights. I don't see any evidence of there being a rear wiper that was deleted.
