Are the large rubber hose from the exterior filler neck to to the tank available for an early car?. I have gas smell in the interior and have traced it there.

I had a gas smell in my car as well. I had to drop the tank to change out all of the hoses and it fixed the problem. You might have to do the same.

Yes that is possible, but I could smell the gas right at the top large hose connection although is appears good. After 39 years anything is possible with those rubber hoses. Who did you get them from?

My gas smell is somewhat intermittent and not too bad. I think I can replace the large hose from the top so I'll do that and then work on trying to get a good airtite seal from the plastic cover to the interior.

I got mine from Pelican Parts. Give them a call. Also keep in mind that hoses go bad from the inside out. The walls gets thinned out and gasoline saturates them and reek of fuel. An airtight seal at the end of the hose will probably not help at all unfortunately since the problem is most like the hose itself. Let us know how it works out.
