|
|
Hoping somebody has a solution. I recently bought a 931 that had a broken hood latch cable. The seller simply never closed the hood completely, allowing him to open it. I know I should have put a rag or something between the latch and catch after I bought it, but the hood closed during transportation. Now, I don't have a way to re-open the hood.
I didn't really get any good hits when I searched the 924 board for repairing a broken hood latch cable. I came across these instructions on a 944 board, though:
1. Get the car on ramps
2. drop the belly pan
3. remove the electric fans (from the bottom - carefully, since there's no way to disconnect the battery first)
4. wedge a crowbar up into the bottom of the hood latch
5. destroy the lower part of the latch
Has anyone used or read of a better method?
Thanks in advance. _________________ 1977 924 MARTINI EDITION

Pretty similar. It's exactly the same as your 77 924 just with the airbox in the way.
So you should be able to actually access the catch from below if you pull the sway bar, radiator and airbox as well.
Not exactly easy, but if you take your time and work by feel. _________________ Stefan

Assuming from your description the cable is broken at the latch, and not at the pull in the cockpit? _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

KDJones - Thanks for the link. The method described there makes it sound like I can avoid destroying the hood latch.
Ideola - I am not sure if the cable simply slipped out of the latch or broke somewhere in the engine bay. The bulk of the cable is laying in the front floor board, though. Still, there may be some amount left that can be pulled from underneath the car.
I am taking it over to my mechanic tomorrow to put on his lift. I will report back. _________________ 1977 924 MARTINI EDITION
