Does anyone have a mod for getting both of the fans to come on at the same time on the 931? Do you use a jumper wire at the fuse box or at the fan housing?

DO NOT jumper the fans together, you will blow fuse at best and melt wires at worst. If your car has two fans, then you must have A/C. That being the case, if you turn the A/C fan on, then BOTH fans should automatically come on at high speed. If they don't, then something is wrong in the electrical circuit, requiring troubleshooting. Follow the troubleshooting protocol listed on Clark's Garage for Early 944s with A/C.
Additional note: there is one important fault not listed in the protocol, and that is a wiring fault between +12V and the fan motor. I have had this condition on at least three cars, where the main wiring loom that is clipped to the radiator sub-frame had a fault in the power lead causing intermittent operation of the second fan. Maddening to chase down! So your call as to whether you should check that out first or last in the above-referenced protocol. I would do it first. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |

| Ok. But won't my ac compressor come on? I only want to run both fans at the same time and not the compressor. I did a mod on a 1989 conquest tsi where all three fans including the pusher came on when the primary fan hit temperature. Is there a relay in the 931 where both fans can come on when the thermosensor energizes? |

From that thread:

The point is, if you turn on the A/C and the fan comes on, it is part of the troubleshooting process. Please read the links that I posted from Clark's Garage and use the troubleshooting process, then fix the problem. It is silly and pointless to add a separate switch and bodge up the wiring when the diagnostic is so simple and easy to conduct. As Rasta said, fix it right. _________________ erstwhile owner of just about every 924 variant ever made |
