I've always considered the rear wiper an ugly, heavy add-on, and have deleted them on a couple of my cars. My 937 is the only car on which its actually worked, so it remains, although I have contemplated removing it as well if not for the fact that it was as-ordered.

But now, James Kraus of Petrolicious and Auto Universum, has written an article with a unique historical perspective that has me rethinking my urge to remove the dead weight and actually get them working on a couple of my other cars.

"If you spot a vintage or contemporary Porsche with the optional rear wiper, it is a safe bet that it is most likely driven by a true Porsche connoisseur."

What do you think???

My friend has tried to get me to remove the rear wiper from my car as well since it's "ugly", however personally I feel that it's still a original part of the car, and actually pretty useful here in Finland. It rains a lot and I actually like to see behind me in all situations

If it works and/or you drive the car during winter keep it.

The one in my S1 was rattling and wast working so i threw it out.
The one in my red 924 was working just fine but i replaced the glass and did not bother to transfer the wiper...by the time i realised that the new one isnt working the old glass was far away so i just removed, plugged the hole and made peace with myself that i'll never be a true connoisseur
Silly article.

I'd like to have a working one, here in Puddletown.

It's pretty simple in my mind. Do you drive it on the street for longer than it takes to get to the track an back? If yes, you should have the rear wiper.

Due to the near horizontal nature of our rear hatch glass there is not enough run of and that creates a slightly hazardous situation. Having used mine in the rain I won't part with it on my road car. The track car on the other hand? It's gone.

Green tartan interior, you don't see that on a Civic.

RainX + 60mph = no need of a wiper

I like the rear wiper. Mine works and I think it looks pretty cool.
