Wouldn't it be cool to buy this...
http://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-opel-manta-blue-max-edition/

...and drop a 924 motor in it!

Why?

Because:

interesting...i bet this will become a trend sometime soon: create replicas of old pre-prototypes.

Ha, I had a friend in the late 80's swap a Ford 3 liter V6 into a Manta. He put a rear wing from a Fiero on it too, looked really good (for the times). Laid rubber all day long, they were pretty light cars iirc. Crazy it's a 924 underneath..

Love the article tht says VW 'allowed' Porsche to make the 924, didn't VW refuse to pay for the engineering so Porsche too it back ?

I had a Manta Rally in high school. Cam, webers, header, SBC valves. It was a great car (but horrible manufacturing quality).

Coincidentally, today's POTD:

Dan, I think you should do it. That is a cool car

I have a 2002 and I have been mulling adding the 924 drivetrain as an homage to the 1600 BMW/Porsche rolling test bed. Can't decide the route I want to take...

Either way though, that is a nice car

oh that bmw 2002 has been driving me crazy...i cant get my head around why do people like it so much lately...its the shittiest box with wheels out there and on top its a bmw(over rated and way overpriced cars) yet people love it and praise it like madmen.
Ffs why is not the Lada praised even a bit, its rwd and in my opinion even better looking in its boxy design.

Yeah, a Russian Fiat with a live axle, what could be better?

Go for a drive in a 1 Series M car that's been modded. I have. It's simply stunning. Short, low and wide, rear wheel drive and 400 bhp, what's to complain about.

It looks like a brick.
modded cars are another deal..modern suspension, engines and stuff like that transform a car's handling..i doubt the original 2002 is that great...so if you drop the goodies in the Lada its the same stuff just maybe better looking...i just dont get why people are hyped about these boxy things when there is so many great cars to be enjoyed out there. I've seen youngsters weld these rusty boxes from a ruin to a rather decent body....its one of those things i'll never understand..like these pants people are wearing lately.

Wait, you haven't driven one? That explains it. . .fast, light, good brakes, great handling, independent rear suspension.

As for Bieber, well, he's a Canadian, so you'll have to ask Leigh about the pants.

A LADA and a 2002 are apples and oranges and I am being nice

I call a 2002 a flying box of soap . I grew up with it and it was my first car. Performs and handles awesome

Personally I think BMW has COMPLETELY lost its way. They always tout the 2002 in Ads but then build big heavy beasts they claim are like the 2002

They (BMW) too should drive one

I get it though. Everyone likes something and dislikes another

This is how one person in my family explains the 924 to someone who asks what it is that I have so many of..."you know its like the 944 but not cool because it doesn't have flares..."
