Just got the new car to my driveway and she looks great. Since the German name day lists 2 female names for Oct. 27, Christa & Sabine, I chose the latter. Kind of fits too which is a good sign.

Great body and very well looked after. I will get it into my shed and start to rip her apart soon, can't wait !

Yeah, I got this car just for the body. It is about as clean and straight as I have ever seen, just hope there is no hidden repairs. Everything will be stripped off it and she will be towed to the body shop for a roll bar and a new paint job. Debating fiberglass doors etc. at the moment as well. In for a penny....

No. I am going to pull all of the parts from the red car with the F**ed body then scrap it. In the meantime I will have Sabine stripped, blasted and re-painted as a fresh shell. All of the good bits will then be installed and away I go.

Think I may have the red car towed to the hills and Tannerite her ass...

So you're going to take a straight car with what appears to be good factory paint and rust protection, throw that away for potentially questionable modern paint products and prep (not too mention sand blasting often creates more bodywork than other methods).

All because you don't want to put that same effort into a car that already needs bodywork and paint? Especially when you're considering fiberglass replacement panels making some of the steel bodywork issues less of an issue as you'll be creating more with the composite panels.

All of this on a rare vehicle that you could simply refresh and sell for a profit?

Well, to each their own I guess, but it seems like you're looking for any excuse to not finish this car that you've been building for the better part of a decade.

Before going on a rant my friend you should make sure you have your facts straight.

1) The red car I have only had for a little over a year and a half, not a decade.

2) The body on the red car is F***ed. As in, "Proper F***ed" like the Brits would say. It would cost me thousands of dollars, plural, to end up with a Franken car that I would always know was cut, welded and bondo'd into shape. If you think it would be wise for me to start a restoration on a shell like that then we indeed think differently. As for using composite panels, those are your words not mine. I mentioned I am thinking of using fiberglass doors. They are removable and easily replaced with factory originals later down the road. I will not be cutting the rear arches for flares, if I wanted a 944 I would go buy a 944. All of the composite parts I want are 'bolt on-bolt off' Grasshopper.

3) Sabine has had a complete respray at some point. She's a great 10 foot looker in the paint department but nothing more than that. I bought her because the shell is straight and clean (as far as I can tell without putting wrenches to her). When I have the car stripped it will be using walnut shell / plastic bead media. This leaves the factory zinc in place. Top that with modern filler primer and a good quality paint job. I don't do cheap friend'o, if you're going in then go balls deep.

If you want to save the red car then by all means come and get it, free of charge. Heck, you're really only a 5 hour drive away, you could be here by lunch ! Otherwise she's going for scrap unfortunately, I only have enough dough for one rebuild and the best 'bod gets it.

As far as "rare", I guess that would be partially subjective. Between myself and another member we have bought 5 of these cars in the last 2 years and I see another has just popped up on CL. Where you live they may be rare but around here they seem rather....common.

To be honest it makes no sense to me to strip to bare metal something that has no rust.
But giving the fact that Sabine has had a full respray, it makes sense to respray it if its just a 10foot looker.
Make sure to post your progress here.

Did you scrap this shell? wasnt it good enough for a rebuild?

Lol, I forgot the Tan car with the parts lot ! OK, make that (6) 931's we have bought in the last 2 years...Morghen, see the plywood just under the engine block in that picture ? Yeah, that's covering the MASSIVE hole the P.O. cut in the floor to install propane tanks. The car was bought, and partially converted, to be a propane vehicle. That shell was also B.E.R.

If you start with the very best example you can find for a body it will save you huge $ down the road in body work / paint cost. That's easy math for me. Am I the Porsche Welfare Division (PWD) where I need to save all the sad neglected cars I find ? Nope, sorry. But if anyone wants the scraps like I said, come on up I will give them away for free. Heck, I will even throw in a snail shell at no cost. That's just GOT to be worth the gas money and good P-Car karma, no ?

Morghen, you are not wrong. Having done some research into why the price of these cars are so low I believe that they have fallen to the "this car is cheap lets trash it" mentality.

With only 12k of these cars build over "four" years and with a significant production change halfway through that it's understandable that they can be defined as rare. Sadly as is stated all to often on the over played history channel shows "rare doesn't always mean desireable".

I am not sure how to change peoples opinion on these cars except own, drive and tell every one what awesome cars the 931 are.
