Hello everyone! I've recently purchased a 1979 Porsche 924 in a junkyard. I'm just curious on where I should start. It has an engine, transmission and the interior is falling apart, there are also no fluids in the engine and no gas (petrol) in the tank. There are some cosmetic rust holes, and the paint is faded horribly. _________________ 1979 Porsche 924 "Viola"

There are a few 924's on Craigslist in Phoenix for parts, or a better car! One guy has two 924 turbo cars without titles for cheap. Lots of reference material on this forum for your searching. Start out by searching for specific items, not general questions like this one. You will have a better understanding about the 924 platform before you hit the wrenches. _________________ '83 944 Track car.

Welcome!
If you can post a few pics of the car we could give a better direction to start. But....
Does the engine turn?
I would then start by cleaning the fuel tank and figuring out if you can even get fuel to the injectors. The fuel distributor can be a pain if it's gunked up with old fuel. I would imagine it is if she's a junk yard car. If you can get fuel to the injectors and they spray well we gave a start. Then I would stick a boroscope in a spark plug hole and see what the chambers look like.
Lots of work, but I would get on eBay and get a Haynes manual, and start picking battles from there.
I would get her running before messing with interior or cosmetics.
Cheers! _________________ Ian Edgerly

No fluids in the engine would concern me, but the junkyard may suck it all out for environmental reasons. Like Ian said, you want to determine if the engine turns over.
I would pull the plugs, squirt marvel oil or something down there, let it sit a while, and try turning it over by hand with a wrench on the crank bolt. Do not be cranking it over with the starter without oil in the engine.
If it is seized, you may want to part it out. _________________ 78 924 |

Welcome to the Porsche Passion Party.
Here's a little food for thought. I don't know what part of Arizona you're in but I'm in the Northwest area near Kingman and I have this '80 for sale:

You may want to consider using the best from both to build your dream car! Let me know if you have an interest as I'm getting ready to deal on this car or else end up possibly parting it out now that the weather has cooled off. I can drop the price a fair amount if you are not interested in the wheels or the seats. If you have a set of 4 lug wheels from your car they will fit this car as it has 5 lug adaptors on it so you could move it if you don't want the Fuchs style wheels.
Cheers,
