|
|
Seems our hamfisted PO wrenched the hydraulic hood prop strut off the car, tearing the metal ball right out of it's holder, the metal is twisted and the ball falls out under pressure, we took it to the grinder to clean up prior to an attempt to weld it on, my kid touched it to the grinder wheel, and yes it took off across the shop an into the abyss.
Are these replaceable somehow? Anyone got one we can attempt to reattach? Some sort of generic or cross over part? I suggested we drill and tap it and bolt it from the backside but, well, now it's gone.
Looks like you can sometimes find the whole bracket but I think that's welded the body.

Mounting points have part numbers in PET. Can't say if they're available though. _________________ Toofah King Bad

The ball mount is staked it the bracket. The bracket has 4 spot welds mounting it. I can cut 1 off my parts car but I am out of town for work till the weekend. Looks like you could use a bolt on ball stud as the bracket is open on the bottom. Let me know if I can help. The car is looking amazing. Great job! _________________ 87 924S |

They just die, so don't necessarily blame the PO.
I had to weld the ball on one of mine back 5 years or so ago.
The "best" way would be to buy a new one from the dealer, if it's not NLA. _________________ 1987 924S SPEC car

I took a crude measure of the ball still on the car and it seems like it's 10mm, although could be 8, couldn't find my caliper at the time. I'll order up a couple generic 10mm ball studs and see if that does it. We sprung for new lift shocks and so they need to work (haven't done the rear yet)
I don't really want to try to weld on our newly painted body so bolting on a replacement sure seems preferable, doubt I'll find one locally, have to order in and pay more in shipping then the silly part costs but if it's an easy fix, that's money well spent. _________________ 87 924S project, '83 944 engine,

after calling around I found a camping/boat/truck place had 'em, guy said it wasn't worth writing me up for so he gave it to me.
So any generic 10mm ball stud will bolt in there if needed and work fine. _________________ 87 924S project, '83 944 engine,
