Longtime lurker, first time poster.

I'm the third owner of a 78 NA that received a lot of deferred maintenance after 20 years of storage. Among other things, the second owner replaced the front struts with KYBs.

What should be my priorities in replacing bushings and other wear items in the suspension and steering?

I'm just looking to sharpen the handling, though I have no other complaints. It also groans/creaks from the rear when hitting certain depressions in the road at speed, though I can't replicate the groaning by bouncing the rear when in the garage.

Fresh dampers and rear shocks + fresh rubber bushings all the way around will do wonders. The rear suspension bushings are not trivial to replace due to the disassembly required. You might consider starting with the shocks and sway bar bushings (if you even have a rear sway), and see if that helps.
