|
|
I recently took off my fuel distributor for a rebuild and found my plunger seized. I have tried a couple of methods but nothing has worked yet. This is the last piece to my fuel system problem so I either need to get this FD to work or buy a new one...
Any ideas will help!! _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Weissach Commemorative Edition |

Dumb idea... What if I reconnected my fuel distributor, but I put 12mm bolts over where the injector lines go to stop the flow to there? It would then place large amounts of pressure onto the plunger because the flow would be trying to go towards the return line, right?
I could also place a cloth between that and the MAF to reduce the impact?
Thoughts? _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Weissach Commemorative Edition |

Have you tried any penetrating oils like Kroil or PB Blaster? They might take some time. _________________ 1977 924 N/A Martini Edition |

I have. I reapplied some penetrating oil once every 15 minutes for 2 hours then reapplied it one last time and let it set for 24 hours. I tried after each reapplication and no cigar.
I might go for a more expensive one just to try it and make sure I didn't pick a cheap one.. But still
I will be putting more penetrating oil on ever 8 or so hours. Ill also try to go for the seafoam penetrating oil.. Expensive for that but so be it _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Weissach Commemorative Edition |

What kind PL are you using? Here's a great post about the difference between the brands.

The plunger and bore and are very precise fit - its unlikely you would be able to repair even if you could get the plunger loose. _________________ Over the top of skyline, total brake failure.... hit the wall at over 200 kp/h at the dipper, so anyone who has to brake for the esses is a pussy.

Very true, but most of what ive seen is surface gunk and i've already got a lot off. I think im gonna run some injector/fuel system cleaner through it and see what that does... _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Weissach Commemorative Edition |

They also make that "Freeze spray". It's a penetrating oil that also freezes. Warm up the distributor with a hair dryer and then spray that on the plunger as per instructions on the can. I think Daniel's right but at this point you don't have anything to lose. _________________ 78 924 |

There is a tiny hole at the top of the plunger bore that connects to the line that comes into the middle of the distributor (the line that goes to your fuel filter then on to the tank). I would spray something like chemtool B12 in that center hole, cap it off so it can't evaporate, and let it sit a while. Once it's had some time to soak in, I would block off the fuel return port (on the side of the FD) with a bolt and apply some compressed air to the center fitting. That may pop it loose. Keep a rag over the bottom of the FD so the plunger doesn't go flying when it comes out. It may come out with a bit of force. _________________ 1980 924 NA, US model

Im gonna try the compressed air today. I haven't or seen the freeze stuff though. Wish I did, sounds interesting because the distributor heats up(expands) and the plunger freezes(contracts) creating more "wiggle" room.
I don't think the plunger will be damaged though.. I see the precision but I haven't done anything to provoke it besides a little force upwards.
I did order a new one because of my time crunch though(27 days left.. Moving. Boy was this a dumb idea lol). _________________ 1980 Porsche 924 Weissach Commemorative Edition |
