|
|
After analysing my engine block after the 2nd head gasket leak in a row it was pretty obvious why i got into issues. The whole area around the cooling channel close to cylinder 4 has sunken down over time, thus making sealing difficult, especially when more boost and timing was added. A big oversight from my side to not check the block, but it kind of got lost in the process which was a bit messy.
The interesting thing was that my spare block had similar block low areas at the same spot around the cooling channel close to the cylinder. Though much less than the block in the car, but the block in the car had been through many racing seasons before it went into my car for even more tough action and track driving. Apparently this is pretty common on old blocks like this.

Yup. A similar issue, deck no longer flat, made our race motor (NA) eat headgaskets like candy until I got it decked. It had originally been flat, but got a bit warped over the years... _________________ Vaughan Scott

I bought a fairly Hugh spec straight edge, very handy to have around for things like these. _________________ 1980 924 Turbo

The CS did not have this issue on the block side but it really isn't the block to check. It was decked obviously when it was built.
I am going to look at other blocks _________________ 1980 931 since 1989
