What is it (circled in green) and is it important?

It's an air/oil separator coming from the crankcase. Removing it, you'll vent crankcase fumes to atmosphere. The forward hose from the unit attaches to the air cleaner. If you track your car, you'll need this.

Thanks - the top "cap" of that unit looks like it broke off and was glued back on at some point.

They are a sealed unit from the factory, so if yours is still glued together, then, it's fine.

that's the flux capacitor....when your '24 hits 88 mph...look out.

but seriously...somebody probably took your oil seperator appart to clean...that's why it was glued.

Mine has cracked open a couple of times. I just JB weld it back together and it is good for a few more years. There's nothing inside...
