I have a '80 ROW 931 now. I was looking at building a Carrera GT rep as I already have the Turbo nose, rear arches and 15" rims for the job.
Yesterday I was flicking through our national 'boy racers' magazine for a friend building a 'modified Mk4 Golf'. Anyway, to cut a long story short, there was a custom 924 on one of the pages.
Fitted with GT/944 bodystyling, rollcage, lowered and detailed with some 17" polished 996 rims it looked very nice. I kind of liked it because it didn't go silly and kept true to its Porsche origins with the parts.
It also improved on a few key areas with modern lighting, interior trimming and uprated suspension.
Has anyone else seen a good 924/944 given the custom treatment?
What do you guys think? _________________ 1981 Porsche 924/80 Porsche 931 GT rep |

That sounds really cool, id love to see some pics. Whats the magazine called?
Im really not sure how I feel about the whole custom issue. I know the 944 skirts, nose and rear end look good on a 924 but then youve also lost some of the character of the 924 as a design in itself. I used to be all for tasteful custom jobs and have even thought of some 944 body pieces for my car, but then I think... it wont be 100% 924 anymore. _________________ 1979 931 with a 350 chev

I havent seen many of what you describe, but it sounds nice. It took me a long time to decide to change the look of my 931, i do love the 924 body in its purest form, but then again, these cars have the hearts of racers, and i decided that i will go with some changes, but keep in the spirit of things, so to speak..Which is especially important to me since i have the "SE" option..its only a marketing package, but unusual nonetheless..
my plans, which im just starting on, include the carrera gt kit, which will stretch out the fenders a bit. But to keep in line with what makes my car special to me, i had replica decals made(with a bit more lenght to accomodate the extra curves), identical to original, which will be applied after paint. In addition i had a special "SE" hood decal made, similiar to the "S" hood decal, but im not sure if that will work once i get the top mount intercooler and required scoop in..Ill keep the flat dish wheels, but may swap to 7&8" widths instead of my original 6"/16's set. ill enhance the back end with a valance to cover up the spare tire well and clean it up a bit..and a few other enhancements as well.. in the end i hope the result will be a semi custom body, that still pays tribute to how she came out of the factory..just a bit meaner looking, with a bit of extra power to back up the looks.....
i think you have to let your car "talk to you" and at some point, itll tell you what it wants..all you have to do islisten to it... _________________ Eric

Eric,
Redo the 928 wheels using the method I used on this site. Go to wheels or suspension for the lowdown. Total cost about $15 and elbow grease. About one can of elbow grease should do it. Ask for it at any Home Depot. _________________ "Never let them see you sweat"

My sentiments exactly. I have been modifying cars since I was 16. To stop now would be like turning off my personality. I love the 924 and the GT, but they are looking dated now and I think a few modern stylistic changes would bring the classic styling I love bang up to date.
'Crystal' headlights, clear indicators, tinted rear lenses etc would liven up the 80's detailing. A fresh coat of Guards Red is without question #1 on the list. I plan on a -30mm drop over the standard 924T suspension. Its the rims I am unclear on. _________________ 1981 Porsche 924/80 Porsche 931 GT rep |
